The Daily Mail, a UK tabloid newspaper is reporting that the seven hostages kidnapped in Bauchi by members of the radical Islamic sect, Ansaru might have been executed by the group.
Among the hostages kidnapped on February 16 by the terrorist group was a Briton who was an employee of a Lebanese construction firm operating in the state, Setraco.
Reports say the hostages were executed due to the sighting of British warplanes in the area which alerted the terrorists to an imminent rescue attempt by foreign forces.
A video clip released by the group was accompanied by screen shots of a video purporting to show gunmen showing the the dead hostages.
The message, identified as coming from Ansaru, could not be immediately verified.
The group of hostages are thought to include citizens from Lebanon, Britain, Greece, Italy and the Philippines.
Both British and Nigerian officials have yet to comment on the incident.
