Five Dead As Suspected Militants And Soldiers Engage In Fierce Gunfight In Sokoto.

Some forty Nigerian soldiers have engaged suspected Boko Haram militants in a fierce gun battle after the troops surrounded their hideout in Bado – suburb of Sokoto township. A soldier and five militants have reportedly died from the ensuing gunfight that lasted hours.

The suspected gun men reportedly rented a flat in a new housing Estate in Bado area,  using the house as their operational base.

Sokoto, seat of the Caliphate, is one of the relatively peaceful states in northern Nigeria where the Boko Haram insurgency is a rare occurrence.
