52 Boko Haram Members Killed After GEJ’s Borno Visit

Shortly after the visit of President Goodluck Jonathan to Borno State, the Joint Task Force has, in a latest operation in Maiduguri, killed 52 members of the Islamic sect, Jamâ'a Ahl al-sunnah li-da'wa wa al-jihâd, otherwise known as Boko Haram, in a shoot-out.

JTF also arrested over 70 of the sect's members. Two JTF personnel were killed while three others were injured, as arms and ammunition were recovered.

In a statement signed by its spokesman, Lt. Col. Sagir Musa, the task force said in the last 10 days, a total of over 52 sect members had been killed in exchange of fire while 70 had been arrested.

Musa also revealed that in all the operations there was no civilian casualty.

About an hour after President Jonathan left, a recovery of three anti-aircraft guns, 10 rocket-propelled grenade tubes, three general purpose machine guns and 17 AK47 rifles was made. Also discovered were four swords and two knives, five walkie-talkies, four VHF handheld sets, one Multilink router; and assorted uniforms and kits.

While in Borno state, President Goodluck Jonathan announced there would be no amnesty for Boko Haram.
